--How to Recycle--

Thank you for participating in our recycling program! In order to recycle, you must follow these instructions (the recycling sorting centers have regulations that we must follow-- or risk the whole load being turned away).

a) The 21-gallon bin provided will be picked-up on your regular pick-up day each week.
   b) Please place the bin on the opposite side of the driveway from your rubbish -- this allows it to be more visible for the recycle crew.
   c) The materials below are included in the recycling program and should be prepared as described (materials not prepared properly cannot be accepted).
PLEASE-- NO Plastic Bags

WITHIN THE BIN, MIX THE FOLLOWING

ALUMINUM & TING CANS AND FOIL:  Examples include food containers such as foil pie plates, foil wrap, and tin cans (but not license plates, stove pipe, etc.) Rinse clean and remove labels. Place all three pieces in the recycling bin.
GLASS--CLEAR/BROWN/GREEN JARS AND BOTTLES: Rinse clean, remove lids (NO PLASTIC LIDS as the plastic lids are not recyclable, but metal lids may be placed in the recycling bin). Labels on glass are not required to be removed. Glass dishware and window glass is not accepted.
PLASTIC #1 & #2 BOTTLES/JUGS/CONTAINERS: Rinse clean, remove lids (NO PLASTIC LIDS as the plastic lids are not recyclable). All acceptable plastic bottles/jugs have "#1" or "#2" stamped in the bottom. No plastic bags. This also does not include oil or antifreeze bottles as these are considered to be contaminated.
STYROFOAM FOOD TRAYS #6: Acceptable food trays (e.g. meat trays) have "#6" stamped in the bottom. Rinse clean.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES: Place in a clear plastic reclosable zipper bag -- this is the only plastic bag that should ever be offered in the recyclables. This bag should be kept dry to keep the batteries from having chemical reactions that may cause gases AND should be KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Place the "Battery Bag" in the recyclable bin. Examples include flashlight, toy, watch, and rechargeable batteries (but NOT car batteries).

IN SEPARATE PAPER BAG, PLACE:

NEWSPAPERS/MAGAZINES/JUNK MAIL/BOX BOARD: Place in separate brown paper bag (no strings or plastic bags) and then place paper bag on top of bin on pick-up day. Examples include office paper, newsprint, phone books, magazines, envelopes without plastic windows, and flyers. No paper contaminated with food or waste (e.g. no paper towels, plates, and tissue). Examples of Box Board are cereal boxes and tissue boxes -- flatten and place in the same paper product bag.
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD: Flatten corrugated boxes and cut into 24: squares. On pick-up day, you may place these under the recycle bin.
