October 1st, 2008 is celebrated as The Woodlands' greatest day in history......the day that C. Diederick van der Velde became our owner. 

Diederick has been in the healthcare industry for nearly 20 years in both Marketing and Operations.  He attended Providence College in Rhode Island where he played Division One baseball and was a member of the 1986 Big East Championship Team.  He completed Graduate School at DePaul University in Chicago in 1993 and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, a Certified Assisted Living Manager and a Certified Home Health Care Administrator.

Upon acquisition, Diederick invested immediately in The Woodlands by purchasing a new 14- passenger bus, re-surfacing the parking lot, installing new carpeting, making roof improvements and purchasing new signs for the property.  Diederick certified The Woodlands as a Medicaid Waiver provider for the state of Ohio and initiated full-time, on-site physical and occupational therapy complete with therapy room. The next investment is planned with the installation of a generator in October.

Diederick's ability to effectively communicate on all levels is key to his success.  From talking with residents, to families, to employees, his compassion and integrity is contagious.  He encourages and supports the employees with his weekly visits and is always a phone call away, any hour, any day. 

Diederick served as the President of the Indiana Assisted Living Association for two years prior to the purchase of The Woodlands.  He also owns Riverbend Assisted Living in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Country Charm in Greenwood, Indiana and the newly opened River Crossing in Charlestown, Indiana.

Though his career has taken up much of his time, he is first to tell you that his family is the most important thing in his life.  Diederick and his wife, Amy, have three children, Ryley, Case and Murphy and reside in Louisville, Kentucky.
